Street food in Chennai - Best places to eat

Its been two years since I left Chennai for my studies. But, there has been no single day without thinking about the delicious street food, that is available in Chennai. From various sources, I have collected some of the best street foods available in Chennai. If you are a foodie like me, then I believe that, this will be of great help to you. Here is the list of 25 must try street foods that, I will be trying out on my next visit to namma chennai!!

  1. Karishma Pani poori shop
    Location: Nungambakkam High road
    Speciality: Authentic pani poori and jhal muri
    Add-ons: You can find the authentic Kolkatta pani poori here
  2. Royal Sandwich shop
    Location: T.T,K road
    Speciality: Sandwiches

  3. Rayar's mess
    Location: off Kutcheri road
    Speciality: Authentic south-indian dishes
    Add-ons: The 'mess' has been in the business for three generations now.
  4. OSB Hot and Chaat
    Location: Lake view road, West mambalam
    Speciality: Chaat and North indian tiffins
    Add-ons: Pocket-friendly, lots of varieties to try out
  5. Matta's veg corner
    Location: Ashok Nagar
    Speciality: Pure vegetarian fast food dishes
    Add-ons: Indianised chinese veg dishes
  6. Rajan bakery
    Location: Near 5 lights, Kodambakkam
    Speciality: Gobi manchurian and noodles
  7. Amudham juice parlour
    Location: Station road, Kodambakkam
    Speciality: Coconut water strawberry, coconut water orange
    Add-ons: Their servings are very large and you get to drink the extra juice that doesn't find in the glass
  8. Kaalan (Mushroom)
    Location: You can find it in the small push cart all across Chennai
    Speciality: Kaalan, it is super delicious mushroom gravy
  9. Vada Pav
    Location: In and around Mint street
    Speciality: Authentic Vada pavs and Pani pooris
  10. Sandwich shops
    Location: Outside Alsa Mall, Egmore
    Speciality: Delicious sandwiches
  11. Mylai Karpagambal Mess
    Location: Mylapore
    Speciality: Keerai vadai
    Add-ons: Recent reviews state that, it has lost its sheen. But, nevertheless you can try it out
  12. Kannadasan Mess
    Location: Natesan park road, Tnagar
    Speciality: Kothu parotta
    Add-ons: Very good vegetarian dishes
  13. Kayendhi bhavan
    Location: All across Chennai
    Speciality: Cheap and delicious meals and tiffins - Idly, vada, pongal, etc.,
    Add-ons: They are the original fast food restaurants with South-indian cuisine
  14. Venkatramana Boli stall
    Location: Thambaiah reddy road, West Mambalam
    Speciality: Thenga poli, Puran poli
    Add-ons: There are other similar stalls, but look out for this real one
  15. Mohan's chaat
    Location: Near Venkatramana Boli stall, West Mambalam
    Speciality: Badam Milk
    Add-ons: This shop doesn't have a name board
  16. Kakada Ramprasad
    Location: Mint street
    Speciality: North indian sweets
    Add-ons: Must visit for all sweet-tooths
  17. Hand held chaats
    Location: Marina beach & Beasant nagar beach
    Speciality: Sundal, Corn on the cod
  18. Madras Coffee house
    Location: Many branches across Chennai

    Location: Adyar
    Speciality: Frankie
  20. Abdul Aziz's Atho shop
    Location: In between Rajaji road and Beach road

  21. Saptagiri Tiffen center
    Location: near Brilliant tutorials, Tnagar
    Speciality: Delicious tiffen varieties
  22. Ajanabi Mithai Ghar
    Location: Pantheon road, Egmore
    Speciality: Chaats

    Add-ons: Not a great place to sit and enjoy the food, but its worth the taste

  25. Murugan Idli shop
    Location: Across the city
    Speciality: Idli, dosa and other south-indian dishes
    Add-ons: Try out their Jigarthanda, not the best but definitely worth a try
